Here’s a case study of how career counselling enabled one of our clients to get back on track towards creating his dream career.
Jack is a 39-year-old Engineer who works in Regional South Australia. He came to us late last year frustrated with his situation.
He wrote:
I’m at a lost end, and looking for someone to help me get some direction. It’s well past time to get out of this rut and move on to the next thing… but I can’t see what the next thing could be
In terms of his next career move, Jack had many factors to consider including:
- His regional location, which he wasn’t able to change.
- His family situation. With a wife and children aged 7 and 8, one with special needs requiring considerable care, he needed to be mindful of continuing to meet his families needs in any future career plan.
- A long-term career dream to study Physiotherapy, which he didn’t think would ever become a reality, given his current circumstances.
Working with our Career Counsellor, Melissa, Jack was able to:
- research career options
- discuss his frustrations
- and develop a plan to move forward out of his rut.
As a result of the coaching sessions, Jack has now enrolled in the course of his choice, has negotiated part time work with his current employer and is feeling on track for the next stage in his working life.
