Carol

How did you come to be working as a career counsellor?

After 15 years in HR it was time for a change. I wrote down all the aspects of my HR and Recruitment positions that I enjoyed and it was pretty close to the job description of a career coach. I researched and completed the required qualifications and here I am.

How do your career coaching clients’ benefit from your background and experience?

Through my experience in HR and recruitment I have a strong knowledge of the WA job market. I understand the recruitment process and what recruiters and hiring managers are looking for.

I am qualified and experienced with career transition or re-direction. And as a Professional member of the Career Development Association of Australia I am aware of trends in recruitment, labour market and career coaching.

What approach do you take to coaching?

My approach is solution focused. Using this approach I can tailor career coaching to my clients individual needs and concerns. My goal is to provide my client with support in making informed decisions about their career development and then turning those decisions into actions.

What can clients’ expect when they work with you?

Clients can expect practical steps to achieve their career objectives. They can expect assistance with decision making, increased self awareness and an understanding of career development and job searching in the current labour market.

What has been your greatest challenge as a career counsellor?

My greatest challenge with every client is to develop a path forward so they are in control of their career and they know how to plan so career opportunities may present themselves. As everyone seeks career coaching for different reasons, every ones path is different.

What are your pet peeves?

Late – I hate being late.

Who would you most like to have over for dinner and why?

Jamie Oliver – in the hope that he might cook or at least provide some inspiration and/or cooking tips.

What’s the best feedback you’ve ever received from a client?

Early in my career the feedback I received was that I was “really nice”. It dawned upon me that really nice was not the aim. So I changed my focus and now the feedback has changed to “really helpful” (I am still nice!)
